This is a strange and wonderful and oddly moving film. A father given to telling tall tales about himself has alienated his
grown son, who doesn't believe his father has ever allowed anyone to really know him. But in director Tim Burton's magical
cinematic recounting of those tales we, along with the son, come to realize that they express a deeper truth about the man
than mere facts could ever convey. The film is a celebration of storytelling itself, and a deeply affecting exploration of
the emotional mistranslations that can complicate the love between a parent and child. It's not up to the level of Burton's
masterpiece "Sleepy Hollow" but it's still a fine and enchanting and powerful film.
